Room open in downtown loft, August 1st [06 Jul 2004|11:02am]

We are in search of the perfect roommate for our downtown loft in the Boydell Building (above Nikis Pizza, The Bouzouki and Locos, across from Greektown Casino, at Lafayette and Beaubien). By "perfect", we mean that we are highly selective and would like to give the right someone the chance to enjoy loft living in the growing Greektown area!

You are:

- Professional
- Respectful, Open Minded
- Able to pay $300/mo
- Open to a slightly left of center lifestyle

We are:

- Similarly minded
- A bit maniacal at times, but respectful of other's property
- An artist type CCS student who runs a local music label
- A techie/tattooed weirdo with delusions of gradeur
- Working class stiffs that pull 8 to 5s and often work on other projects out of the loft, so you won't have to deal with us all the time.

- $300 covers your rent, cable internet, cable TV, electricity and heat
- We typically collect another $25-40/mo for house expenses (cleaning supplies, bum-tissue, etc.etc.)
- You'll need to find a place to park. If you're brave and crafty, you can park free at any meter after 6PM and before 7 AM. Otherwise, most local lots charge around $100/mo for parking.

Reasons to live here:

- Cheap. At $300/mo, you get a 12' x 15' room in a 2100 square foot loft, shared with three others, as well as use of the common space.
- No lease. We ask that you give us 30 days notice if you want to leave, but no lease and no damage deposit.
- Convenient. You can walk to nearly anything downtown. Rencen in 4 minutes. Anything in Greektown in less than 2 minutes. Woodward/Grand Circus in less than 5 minutes.
- Unique. Loft living affords you all kinds of options. Like building things? Being creative? Need to be loud a couple nights a week? This is the place for you.
- $2 slices at Nikis at 1:50 AM on a weeknight. How can you not love that?!

Is this something anyone here is interested in? I can arrange a tour for you any night this week to look at the place and meet your future roommates.

After 8 parking tickets in the three weeks I've been there, I've decided to pay for parking. Loft living is awesome, if you don't have 3000 pounds of steel to hide somewhere every day.

Loft Living, Week 2

- Our first floor elevator door is manual and a lot of people forget to close the damn thing, rendering the elevator useless.

- The freight elevator works less than half the time.

- Parking is a bear, but I almost have it down. I just have to remember to leave by 6 a.m. to avoid getting tickets and not come home until atleast 6 p.m.

- The bums are getting smarter, and more daring.

- There needs to be a closer grocery store.

- Being able to walk down to the pizza place on the first floor in my socks and underwear at 1:00 a.m. rules. Being able to take a pitcher of cocacola back with me is awesome.

- I have a washer and dryer in my building.

- The view out my window of the Ren Cen is gorgeous and gets nicer every day.

- I've adjusted to city life quite quickly.

For the third day in a row, I've seen someone beat almost to death in a fistfight outside my window. The third floor gives you an amazing vantage point. You're just high enough to stay out of the chaos while being close enough to enjoy it.

The bane of my existance: Parking Tickets

In the 6 days I've been living in my loft, I've gotten more parking tickets than I make in a day's pay. That's ridiculous.

d0cdet and I are completely moved into the loft now.

It's gorgeous, with a beautiful view of the RenCen and most of the bars that I frequent.

Rants so far:

- I get my car busted into the second night and all of my CDs and change stolen. Luckily for me, all of the CDs I had were burned copies and they were all bad '80s hair bands.
- I have to leave my street parking (or pay for overnight $12 parking) by 6:00 a.m. Thus, I'm at work a little early.
- Moving up three flights of stairs with no elevator is a bitch
- I'm gonna lose a ton of weight running up stairs every day, several times a day.

Raves so far:

- A walk to greektown, good mexican food and the good bars
- 1300 square feet is HUGE
- d0cdet is easy enough to live with

As of April 1st, 2004, I'll be living in the Nikki Lofts in Downtown Detroit, MI. Myself and d0cdet decided to rent a large raw loft for producing music and other craziness. I'll post pictures as soon as we have them.
